Sarah Quarterman

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I have been the CEO at the Basingstoke and Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation Charity since July 2018 and have enjoyed the challenge of the past 6 years guiding a local healthcare charity with tremendous local support through the ups and downs of the pandemic and resulting slings and arrows of genuinely outrageous fortune! Previously I was a CEO of a small national plant conservation charity and before that I worked in Trusts and Corporate fundraising in the hospice sector and for Anaphylaxis UK. Working in the VCSE sector has been my second career – before children I was a systems analyst and project manager for John Lewis. I live in Yateley, where my children grew up, and work in Alton so feel I know a little of what is going on in the North East of the county in terms of health and social care.

What are you passionate about?

Since beginning work in the charity sector, I have always loved putting my systems technical background to good use, to ensure the best service delivery for patients and the most efficient working environment for staff. I am driven to have the optimum process in place, whatever the activity, which is fair for all.

Tell us about your work with HIVCA:

My role on the HIVCA leadership committee is twofold: first to bring knowledge of the North East of the county and to advocate for the smaller health and care charities working alongside the NHS and local authority colleagues; secondly to liaise with other alliances, both in the South East region and nationally within the 42 Alliances mapped to each Integrated Care System, to work collaboratively in our approach with the NHS, and learn from others’ approaches. With some systems establishing alliances from 2022 there is much to be learned from other geographies, approaches and frameworks they have in place which we hope we can adapt to meet the needs of our own VCSE sector, in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight through HIVCA.
